A look back on the "Warm liaisons" excercise

On Friday, September 12, 2025, an exercise for EMRIC's “warm liaisons” took place at the MCC in Maastricht. “Warm liaisons” are officials appointed to establish and maintain contacts with foreign partners at the crisis staff level in order to share information across national borders. 

Two realistic scenarios, one affecting Belgium and one affecting Germany, were simulated to test mutual communication. The participants contacted the liaisons of the neighboring countries by telephone. The focus was on passing on the right information in a timely manner.

The exercise provided valuable lessons for future cross-border incidents.
