Infectious diseases play an important role in the field of cross-border security. The increased cross-border mobility means that they can be transmitted easily and initially unnoticed. This means that a local outbreak of an infectious disease can quickly have international consequences. An essential part of disease control is therefore identifying the source of infection and limiting further infection as much as possible. A shared approach in the Meuse-Rhine Euregion aims to minimize the spread of diseases by alerting care providers and healthcare managers to conspicuous syndromes and thus warn each other of potential dangers. The development of a Euregional dashboard, which doctors from all three countries can access, means that the entire area is monitored and a constant supply of information is guaranteed.
Within the Meuse-Rhine Euregion, the authorities responsible for infectious disease control work closely together and regularly exchange information during Euregional consultations of the Infectious diseases focus group. The focus group meets approximately four times a year.
